MANSFIELD -- Shearer Equipment will be acquired by Ag-Pro Ohio, according to a letter posted to Shearer Equipment's Facebook page.
The post details how the John Deere dealer, with Mansfield and Mount Vernon locations, has signed a letter of intent to sell its assets to Ag-Pro Ohio, LLC., a subsidiary of Ag-Pro Companies.
"The decision to sell the assets of Shearer Equipment was very difficult. We have evaluated multiple options in hopes of finding the very best option for our employees and our customers," the letter from Brian Giaque and Mark Stitzlein said. "After much evaluation and consideration, we have decided that the timing is right to make this change."
Stitzlein is listed as the general manager and Giauque as the owner, by the Better Business Bureau.
The letter also explains that a new ownership team was formed 14 years ago at Shearer Equipment with the vision to expand its footprint in Northeast Ohio.
"While this has allowed us to be on the leading edge, it is now time to make further changes to allow our employees and customers access to the greatest opportunities and the brightest future we see possible," the two said in the letter.
Ag-Pro Companies is headquartered in Boston, Georgia and currently has 71 locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas and Ohio.
Its Ohio locations were only added recently, when the company acquired JD Equipment, a dealership based in London, Ohio. That acquisition marked Ag-Pro's first expansion into the Midwest.
The letter states Ag-Pro looks to continue with its current employees. The anticipated transaction date is Wednesday, Jan. 30.
Ag-Pro was not immediately available for comment.
Shearer Equipment is located at 2715 W. Fourth St. in Mansfield, and 496 Harcourt Rd. in Mt. Vernon.
