MOUNT VERNON -- The Knox Community Hospital Auxiliary recently awarded $1,000 health career scholarships to 15 area high school graduates.
Auxiliary scholarship committee members considered all applications prior to making their selection. Students are considered on the basis of their scholastic standing, community involvement, as well as financial need.
The 13 high school recipients they have chosen are: Averey Bell, Sydney Buckingham, Taylor Chattin, Alexis Cherry, Kaelyn Fox, Savannah Gammell, Nichole Groseclose, Maygan Newcomb, Lauren Pfeifer, Madison Rine, Steven Smith, Jack Stalnaker and Elise Tucker. The four college recipients chosen are: Mallory Arnold, Nathan Grizenko, Kari Lauderbaugh, and Rachel Tumbleson. The Nellie and Lowell Truex.
Memorial Scholarship which was given to Elyse Newell and Jacob Tiell received the Betty Spearman Scholarship.
The Auxiliary raises money for these scholarships through many fundraising events. Also, the sales of the Hospital Gift Shop contribute to the scholarships that have been awarded over the past several years.
In addition to the scholarships, the Auxiliary provides funds for the donation of toys given to children who come in for emergency services, laboratory, surgery and diagnostic imaging.
