Jake's steakhouse in Ashland

Jake's restaurant in Ashland has closed after 15 years.

ASHLAND -- Jake's Steakhouse in Ashland has closed its doors after 15 years in business at 1040 Sugarbush Court.

Jake’s Steakhouse managing partner Tim DeRodes offered an electronic message to employees over the weekend that read:

"To all my Ashland employees,

"This post is devastating to all and heartbreaking to me. I have to (cease) operation of Jake's of Ashland. With all of the repair and maintenance cost of the three stores, I slowly began to struggle financially.

"So, I had to borrow money. This was a decision I didn't make lightly. I looked at all possible options until it was too late.

"This was my life for the last 18 years, and 15 in Ashland.

"I'm sorry for no notice, but in business it has to be that way.

"I hope and pray the best for you.

"Sincerely and apologies,

"Tim DeRodes"

The Jake's Mount Vernon location closed on Sept. 26 in similar fashion, with an email to employees just before midnight the previous evening. That location was open for 18 years.

In response, Ashland Cleaning Commercial and Residential Services sent a Facebook notice to former Jake's employees:

"As a leader in the Ashland and surrounding communities, we would like to extend offers of employment and sign-on bonuses to individuals affected by the sudden & unexpected closing of the Jake's Restaurant locations in the communities we serve.

"We understand you may not have a resume prepared; please call our office this week or visit our website's careers page and we will get you in for immediate employment interviews with priority. Below are some positions we are hiring for in both Ashland & Wooster markets:

1.) Cleaning Professionals - Evenings & Days PT or FT
