MOUNT VERNON — Wallpaper has a long history among the decorative arts, with its origins in China tracing back more than a thousand years. It has gone through many periods of popularity and unpopularity, and its history leaves many questions about it unanswered.

A modern chapter in this history will be the topic at the Sept. 5 meeting of the Knox County Historical Society. The Wednesday evening meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Historical Society Museum, 875 Harcourt Road in Mount Vernon.

The program will be presented by Corby Wise, Advertising Manager of the Mount Vernon News, and also the proprietor of Wolff House Wallpaper, whose creations now hang in a variety of house and history museums and have been featured in magazines and motion pictures.

His background in art, graphic design and historic preservation contribute to his creation of new or matching wallpaper designs for historic homes and other buildings throughout the country. His presentation will highlight many of the beautiful and interesting Wolff House projects and creations.

The program is free and open to the public, and all persons interested in area history are invited to attend. For more information, call the Museum at 740-393-5247, or check the website, at www.knoxhistory,org.
