MOUNT VERNON – Spring break is over for most students and for Ohio lawmakers as they get back to work hammering out the next biennial budget for the state of Ohio. Governor Kasich has submitted his $72.3 billion spending plan and now it the House’s turn to put their plan together.

State Representative Margaret Ann Ruhl met with KnoxPages.com to talk about the budget and other issues being discussed in Columbus. Ruhl says she, along with a few other legislators, met with Kasich about two weeks ago and learned more about the school funding plan put forth by the governor. Ruhl said, “I just don’t know why they are changing the formula at this point. We just changed it two years ago and I would like to have seen it continue a little longer.”

Ruhl continued, “They [Kasich administration] want to go away from the guarantee and that will hurt most of the schools in Knox County. I voiced my opposition to it (going away from the guarantee).”

The East Knox School District is in fiscal emergency.
