MOUNT VERNON — Firefighters were called in just before 4:00 Monday morning to a housefire at 27 Madison Avenue. Eight personnel were dispatched. Flames fully engulfed the vacant structure when crews arrived on the scene.

Acting Mount Vernon Fire Chief Chad Christopher told KnoxPages.com that both the electricity and the gas were shut off a week ago and that the house was slated soon for demolition.  The property is owed by the Foundation Park Conservancy which is in the process of demolishing several structures in the area. Christopher says right now the cause of the fire is undetermined and MVFD’s Arson Investigator Terry Davis is gathering information.
