MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Career Center’s JROTC finished 3rd overall in the Raider Competition that was recently held at Wayne High School in Dayton.
The Raider Competition has a variety of events including a 2.5-mile relay run, heavy vehicle rope pull, tire flip, heavy object carry, equipment obstacle course, and rope bridge crossing.
The highlight of the day, according to Lt. Col. Chris Salvucci, was the rope bridge crossing. Students are required to cross a 60-foot simulated river with nothing more than 120-foot of rope for the team, 14-foot sections of rope for each team member, and mountain climbing carabiners.
“This competition was a great opportunity this year when many other student activities are being cancelled. We learned a lot, passed corporate knowledge from seniors to underclassmen, and we are already looking forward to next year,” Salvucci said.
“We are optimistic we can close the gap between ourselves and the elite teams from around the state and around the country.”
