MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Foundation is accepting applications for its 2027 grant programs, providing funding opportunities for nonprofit organizations serving Knox County.
Applications are open for small grants, major grants and Summer Youth Enrichment grants, with the first application deadlines approaching in December and January.
For the first small and major grant cycle of 2027, organizations must submit an Expression of Intent by Dec. 15, followed by a full application due Jan. 15, 2027, if invited to proceed. Additional small and major grant cycles will take place throughout the year (see chart below).
Summer Youth Enrichment grants have just one annual application deadline: Jan. 15, 2027. No Expression of Intent is required for this program.
Small and major grants
The foundation’s small and major grant programs support projects and initiatives that address community needs and improve quality of life throughout Knox County.
Small grants are available for funding requests of $10,000 or less, with four application cycles each year. Major grants support requests exceeding $10,000, with two application cycles annually.
Both programs require an Expression of Intent before applicants can submit a full grant application. Introduced in 2026, the EOI process allows organizations to provide a brief overview of their proposed project, including goals, objectives and a preliminary budget.
Organizations that do not currently serve Knox County residents or have not previously received foundation funding will also be asked to demonstrate established community connections or partnerships.
Following review, applicants meeting the criteria will be invited to submit a full grant application. EOIs will be due by the 15th of the month prior to each grant application deadline.
“The Expression of Intent process allows us to connect with organizations earlier in the
application process and better understand the projects they’re planning,” said Lisa Lloyd, senior program director for Knox County Foundation. “It’s an opportunity to provide feedback, answer questions and help nonprofits move forward with confidence.”
Summer youth enrichment grants
The foundation is also accepting applications for its Summer Youth Enrichment Grant program, established in 2026 to help reduce financial barriers that prevent Knox County children and teens from participating in meaningful summer and extracurricular activities.
Funding may be used for scholarships, registration fees, activity passes and related expenses for youth from low-income families or underserved backgrounds. Eligible programs may include educational camps, grief support programs, 4-H and nature camps, recreational activities and other structured enrichment opportunities.
Unlike small and major grants, Summer Youth Enrichment grants do not require an Expression of Intent. Organizations submit one application, due Jan. 15, 2027.
2027 grant application deadlines

“We’re fortunate to have so many dedicated nonprofit organizations working to strengthen our community,” said Lloyd. “As we look ahead to 2027, we’re excited to continue building those partnerships and supporting the important work happening throughout Knox County.”
Organizations interested in applying are encouraged to review the foundation’s grantmaking guidelines and submit materials through the online grant portal at www.knoxcf.org/apply-for-a-grant.
