Marguerite “Peggy” DePolo, age 81, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home and Health Care Center. She was born on June 27, 1945, in Somerset, Ohio, to the late Thomas and Frances (Smith) Collins.
Peggy graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in education. After many years of teaching in Utica, Newark, and Mount Vernon, she concluded her career as a special education tutor in the Mount Vernon School District. She eventually stepped away from teaching to focus on raising her son and caring for her family.
Peggy also pursued a passion for arts and crafts. An avid crafter and entrepreneur, she became a familiar face at local craft shows and downtown shops, eventually owning and operating her own store, “Country ‘N’ Things,” where she enjoyed sharing her creativity and love of handmade treasures with others.
In her later years, Peggy cherished her role as a grandmother. She especially enjoyed helping care for her grandchildren, attending their activities and events, celebrating their accomplishments, and spending time with family.
She is survived by her son, Jay (Lindsey) DePolo; grandchildren, Megan Randall, Derrick DePolo, Ashlynn Brokaw, and Josie DePolo; her sister, Ruth Ann Brown; and her brother, Charlie Collins.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas “Nick” DePolo and Stepson, Mark DePolo.
