Theresa M. Ashcraft, age 98, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon.
She was born on May 21, 1928, in Manhattan, New York, the daughter of Leo and Florence (Pallonari) Ciarlo.
Theresa worked as a seamstress at the original Macy’s in Manhattan, where she developed and shared her natural talent for sewing. After moving to Mount Vernon in 1965, she worked at Wise Jewelers before helping her late husband, Daughn, operate Ashcraft Janitorial until 1990.
Theresa was a wonderful cook and enjoyed shopping and meeting new people. She never met a stranger and had a warm and welcoming personality that made those around her feel comfortable. She also loved sewing and was a talented seamstress who took great pride in her work.
Theresa will be remembered for her kind heart, friendly spirit, feisty Italian heritage, and the many people whose lives she touched throughout her 98 years. Nothing was important to Theresa than the quality time she spent with her grandchildren, supporting them in their activities.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Ashcraft of Mount Vernon, and Bill (Luconda) Ashcraft of Mount Vernon, Danny (Carolyn) Ashcraft of Vista, California, three grandchildren, Colton (Addie) Curry, Jarred (Sutton Black) Curry and Lauren (Anthony) Hart, a great grandchild, Brixley Curry, a sister, Mary Ciarlo and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Daughn K. Ashcraft, a son, Kevin Ashcraft, two stepdaughters, Pamela Ashcraft and Torchy Ashcraft.
Friends may call on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 12 pm to 2 pm at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where a prayer service will begin at 2 pm with Deacon Tim Birie. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery in Danville.
Memorial contributions in Theresa’s name may be made to Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
