MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Community Band (MVCB) and Knox Community Jazz Orchestra (KCJO) are again joining forces to present “A Night at the Theater.”
The concert is slated for Friday, Sept. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at The Woodward Opera House. Admission is free, with donations being accepted at the door. Doors will open to the public at 6 p.m.
The Mount Vernon Community Band is heading to the theater. Which theater you may ask? All of them!
There will be music representing the symphonic theater with Dvorak’s “New World Symphony.” Musical theater, with tunes such as, “West Side Story” and “A Symphonic Gershwin.” And the movie theater, with charts from classics like “The Three Amigos” and Disney’s “Tangled.”
The Knox Community Jazz Orchestra will feature a number of selections that have appeared on the silver screen or on Broadway, including Cole Porter’s “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” Luis Bonfa’s “Gentle Rain,” and Ary Barroso’s “Brazil,” along with several other classic jazz arrangements.
Benjamin Priestland, a student at Kenyon College, will return once again to sing with the group.
The MVCB was established in 2016. Adam Garlinger has directed the group since 2019.
“We’re thrilled to once again share the stage with the KCJO, and are looking forward to a very fun evening of music in the beautiful Woodward Opera House,” Garlinger said.
The KCJO was founded in 2017 under the direction of Ted Buehrer.
“KCJO celebrates our 10th season this year, and we are happy to be returning to the Woodward Opera House for another joint concert with the Mount Vernon Community Band,” Buehrer said.
“It’s always good to bring together community music ensembles, and the Woodward is one of our favorite venues.”
