MOUNT VERNON — Local motorists will be happy to know the Knox County commissioners opened bids on Thursday for the final 2.5 miles of the Danville-Amity Road improvement project.
Phase 3 improvements include resurfacing pavement.
Two companies submitted bids:
•Small’s Asphalt Paving $272,457.30
•Kokosing Construction $276,371
The engineer’s estimate was $350,537.76.
Phase 1 of the improvement project, Skyline Drive to Richards Street, was completed in 2024. Phase 2 occurred in 2025 and spanned Skyline Drive to Monroe Mills Road.
The final phase covers Monroe Mills Road to State Route 3. It also includes the section of Lower Fredericktown-Amity Road between Route 3 and Danville-Amity Road.
Assistant county engineer Clint Cochran will review bids and make a recommendation to the commissioners.
Commissioners approve infrastructure, child support contracts
Commissioners approved the following resolutions between June 30 and July 9:
•Accepting the $426,735.53 contract between Knox County Job & Family Services and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office for the child support enforcement program. The federal share is $281,645.45; the local share is $145,090.08.
•Placing an invitation to bid for Danville’s CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) project to extend water lines down Market Street. The engineer’s project estimate is $470,000.
•A letter of support for the Knox County Park District’s grant application to the Clean Ohio Green Space Conservation Program. The funding would support the purchase of 40 acres to expand Woodland Park to 205 acres.
•An agreement with DLZ Ohio for design services for the Kinney Road bridge replacement. The county engineer estimates it will cost $1.969 million to replace the 108-foot concrete box beam bridge over Dry Creek.
•The agreement with Evans, Mechwar, Hambleton and Tilton for the Mile Creek Road Bridge replacement. The county engineer estimates it will cost $1.069 million to replace the 52-foot three-span steel pony truss bridge over Mile Creek. The bridge closed in 2023 due to its poor condition.
•A $1.136 million agreement with Shrock Premier Custom Construction to build an office building at 22000 Coshocton Road for the county water/wastewater department. The architect’s estimate was $1.1 million. The commissioners paid $142,500 for 2.23 acres in August 2025.
The commissioners also accepted the Probate/Juvenile Court’s annual report for 2025 and the Star Ohio investment income report of $231,351.27.
