Mary M. McCann, 96, of Mount Vernon passed away on June 22, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born on January 24, 1930 in Mount Vernon, the daughter of Herman K. and Grace F. (McCammon) Seavolt.
She had a paper route with her sister Dolores, worked as a waitress at Bailey’s in Utica and as a clerk at the 10¢ store before graduating from Utica High School in 1947. After graduation she worked at The Ohio Power in Newark.
She married her school sweetheart and the love of her life, James, in March of 1951. She then worked at Philadelphia, PA train station, U.S. Steel Co. in California, where while her husband was stationed in the Navy.
Moving to Columbus in 1954, beginning the hardest yet rewarding job of raising four children while her husband attended medical school. She later worked as manager/receptionist with her husband James’s medical practice before retiring in 1997. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a member of Gay Street United Methodist Church, Associate member of OSU Alumni Club and past president of former KCW Medical Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children Richard (Kimberly) McCann, Kathryn (Richard) Wolfe, David (Renee) McCann and Laura (Jim) Baughman; grandchildren Brooke Walker, Paige Hewitt, Carrie Cree, Shane Cody, Seth Swearingen, Ryan Mavis, Amy Thomas, Jason Wolfe, Jared McCann, Nick McCann, Chad and Sarah Baughman; numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carol Marston of Utica.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James in 2020, and a sister, Dolores Curtis.
The family will observe a private graveside service. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Mary M. McCann.
