Working for Knox Pages is exactly the kind of next step I envisioned for myself after college.
I am ecstatic to get started as a general assignment reporter with a focus on education.
I was born and raised in Solon, Ohio, 30 minutes from downtown Cleveland. While I initially wanted to escape this state for college, Ohio University became the obvious choice when I looked into its journalism program.
I proudly graduated from OU’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism in May. I believe there is no better institution to have prepared me for a career in journalism. While at OU, I pursued minors in anthropology and geological sciences, alongside a certificate in museum studies.
If you’re familiar with OU at all, you have heard the phrase “experiential learning” uttered from the mouths of every tour guide, administrator and faculty member. However, this emphasis is what pushed me toward numerous journalistic escapades.
From interviewing celebrity comedians at South by Southwest to writing biographies of the deceased for the Cleveland Natural History Museum, my foray into the world of journalism has been extensive as well as adventurous.
During my senior year, I served as an executive editor at The Post, the largest independent student newspaper at OU with more than 200 active members. I helped introduce Solutions Journalism into the newsroom and directed coverage on the effects of SB1 and OU faculty union negotiations.
Together, these experiences have prepared me to serve your community. I’m so honored to explore Knox County as a reporter.
Also, it just so happens that Knox County is situated in the foothills of Appalachia, a region I became enamored with during my time at college. I’ve found there is something special about the people and places nestled throughout the region.
A large part of this admiration came from the year-and-a-half spent visiting East Palestine, Ohio. This village, and its response and recovery following the 2023 train derailment, was the basis of my senior honors thesis.
That award-winning project pushed me to become a better journalist. It’s the reason I fell in love with journalism’s ability to showcase the intricacies of human connection and community.
Outside of work, I’m excited to investigate all the activities Knox County has to offer.
Growing up in Cuyahoga County had many perks, but among the greatest were the Cleveland Metroparks with its rushing rivers and kaleidoscopic views. Family road trips to national parks remain some of my favorite memories. Fortunately, for this nature-loving reporter, Knox County seems to be no stranger to natural beauties.
When I’m not outside, I enjoy escaping into fiction through all forms of media. From books and movies, to video games and TV shows, I especially enjoy experiencing these with friends and family. My favorite genres are science fiction and high fantasy, and I’m always looking for new recommendations.
I’ve already spent a few days in Knox County. It’s shocked me how welcoming everyone has been, even strangers at the grocery store. It’s clear the county has a multitude of stories to offer, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to help share them.
If you have a tip or a favorite spot in the county you’d like to share, email me at alexandra@knoxpages.com. See you in Knox County!
