David Lee Patterson, age 71, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026, at Knox Community Hospital.

He was born on February 23, 1955, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the son of J. Doyle and N. Genevieve (Hinzman) Patterson. David was a 1973 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and attended the Knox County Joint Vocational School.

David retired from the TRW Plant in Mount Vernon after 30-plus years of dedicated employment. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and Colonial City Moose Lodge #2555. David was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was also an avid coin collector.

Above all else, David was a family man. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who treasured the time he spent with his family. His kindness, steady presence, and caring heart will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife Sherry (Trumpower) Patterson, whom he married on April 15, 1977, his children, Dan Adams of Swanton, Ohio, Rachel Humphrey of Winter Springs, Florida, Shawn (Jackie) Foust of Monterey, California, Jason (Jessica) Patterson of Decatur, Michigan, and Sylvia (Ben) Cook of Mount Vernon, 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, good friends Marvin, Laura and Sean, and his feline companions, Tippy, Patches and Miss Kitty.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Terry Patterson.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio, 43050, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
