James Lee Kerr, 89, of Mt Vernon Ohio (formerly of Columbus Ohio) was born on March 12, 1937, in St. Louis, Missouri, and passed away on March 24, 2026.
He graduated from Washington University School of Engineering in 1959. Soon afterward, he entered the U.S. Army and proudly served at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, where he was honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant in 1960.
In 1959, he married Rosa A. Neugebauer his beloved wife of 66 years.
The new couple made the move to Ohio for his career with Western Electric. James later worked for AT&T, and Lucent Technologies, retiring in 1989 after 31 years as a Professional Electrical Engineer.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, James is survived by his wife, Rosa; his son, Andy, his daughter, ToniAnn, and 5 grandchildren, Joseph, Danielle, Jessica, Zach and Hannah.
He was a fiercely loyal family man, and took great pride in them. He was known for his strong work ethic, deep Christian faith, and his dedication to being present for his family.
James was an active member of Faith Bible Chapel in Sunbury for many years, leading in Bible studies, and was a Bible study Fellowship Discussion Leader since 2000.
He had a lifelong passion for problem-solving and mechanics, which led him to establish Jim Kerr Services, a locksmith business. He took great satisfaction in helping others with locks, keys, and mechanical repairs, earning a reputation for exceptional skill and reliability.
He was also an avid amateur radio operator who achieved the Amateur Extra Class license—the highest level of licensure—and served as a Volunteer Examiner, administering exams to aspiring operators. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed spending time at the shooting range with family and friends.
James and Rosa shared a love of travel, visiting many destinations around the world together. He will be remembered for his technical expertise, kind and helpful spirit, and his legacy of steadfast commitment to faith and family.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 12:00 PM. Family is observing a private burial.
