MOUNT VERNON — The story of America’s Civil War continues to be a topic of great interest to students of history in Knox County, as well as throughout Ohio and America.

Events surrounding the beginning of that War will be discussed at the Oct. 3 meeting of the Knox County Historical Society in a presentation by Mr. Robert Geiger. The Wednesday evening meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Museum, 875 Harcourt Road.

For more than 20 years, social studies teacher Robert Geiger has been offering an elective class in the history of the American Civil War to his students at the Knox County Career Center.

His class activities have included trips to the battlefields at Gettysburg and Antietam, class visits by area military re-enactors, and a special student project to compile a database of Civil War veterans buried in Knox County. His illustrated program will discuss the interesting personalities and the tumultuous times leading up to the firing on Fort Sumter and its aftermath.

The program is free and open to the public, and all persons interested in area history are invited to attend. For more information, contact the Museum at 740-393-5247 or the website at www.knoxhistory.org.
