Carrie Shontell “Shawn” Hammons, age 62, of Mount Vernon passed away at her home on Saturday, January 31, 2026, with her family at her side.
She was born on April 13, 1963, in Mount Vernon to the late Richard and Louise (Murdoch) Morrison. Shawn enjoyed reading, gardening and music. But most of all she loved the time she spent with her grandchildren and family.
Shawn is survived by her daughter, Sabrina Hammons; her son Nicholas (Alysha Welch) Hammons; and two grandchildren, Anthony Schaade and Samuel Turner.
In addition to her parents, Shawn was preceded in death by her husband Grover Dean Hammons; and her brother Robert Murdock.
In keeping with Shawn’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. The family will have a private service at a later date.
