ASHLAND — A 24-year-old is being held at Ashland County Jail following a fatal New Year’s Day shooting, police said Friday.
Robert Palermo, of Ashland, was arrested in connection to the death of John Grehn, 61. Palermo had not been charged at the time of publication.

Police found Grehn dead inside a home located on the 100 block of East Liberty Street on Thursday afternoon.
“The incident began with a 911 call from resident John Palermo, who was not injured,” police said in a press release.
The Ashland County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the shooting for charges against Robert Palermo, police said. Detectives searched the house to collect evidence related to the shooting.
The Ashland County Humane Society took custody of a dog found inside the home. Police said the animal was unharmed.
“The investigation is ongoing. There are no safety concerns for the community at this time,” police said.
