Eric C Shaw, 66 of Mount Vernon passed away on November 20th, 2025 at The OSU Wexner Medical Center after his brave and remarkable fight with cancer. A diagnosis of 2 years to live turned into a more than 5 year heroic fight.

Ricky lived his life to the fullest every day! He would often be found on a golf course, jamming to Van Halen while sipping on a Mountain Dew. He took pride in his golf game and betting against his friends, many of which he still owes his losses to. When Ricky wasn’t golfing, he could be found cheering on the Buckeyes and keeping tabs on his fantasy football team.

Ricky loved his family and friends dearly. His guardian angel Donna Shaw and his daughter MacKenzie Scott (Joe) took care of his everyday needs and his sweet tooth. His best buddy was his grandson Cal. Cal learned many things thanks to his PawPaw, including golf swings, football spin moves, and a love for Twinkies. He had many incredible memories with his siblings Phil Shaw (Deanne), Debbie Ramsey (Ed) and Shelle McFadden (Craig). His nieces and nephews will always remember Uncle Ricky as the fun uncle!

Ricky spent more than 30 years as an insurance agent in Mount Vernon. He valued the relationships he had with each of his clients. Ricky retired from insurance in 2013 after the call to the golf courses became louder than the morning alarms. He was a graduate of Utica high school in 1977. He was a star athlete and earned many accolades along the way including a chance to play football at Miami University. He is still a proud member of the Utica Sports Hall of Fame.

Rick never liked for people to be sad and would never want people to dwell on his passing. He loved his family, friends and the Lord with all his heart. We will see him in Heaven again someday! Until then, as he always said, don’t get cheated.

Per Ricky’s wishes, there will be no service at this time. Just lots of great memories, stories to be told and a look back at his famous selfies.
