C. Hershel Thomas, age 76, of Fredericktown passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, October 10, 2025.
He was born on July 19, 1949, in Middlesboro, Kentucky to the late Edward and Loraine (Tennyson) Thomas. Hershel owned and operated the Thomas Auction Service, in Fredericktown, for over 30 years. He was one of the founding members of the AMVETS Post #95 in Mount Vernon and was a member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge #2555. Hershel would often do charitable auctions for no charge and enjoyed playing softball. He was a veteran serving in the United States Army.
He is survived by his sons, Ty (Heatherlyn) Thomas, Chas (Beth Spence) Thomas; seven grandchildren, Halseighanne Thomas, Anthony Thomas, Aaralyn Thomas, Adrianna Thomas, Easton Thomas, Anniston Thomas, Lennon Thomas; his brothers, Gary Thomas, Steve (Connie) Thomas; his sisters, Willetta (Mark) Coleman, Linda (Gary) Burson; and his former daughter-in-law Amy Mavis Thomas.
In addition to his parents, Hershel was preceded in death by his brother John Thomas.
Friends may call on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 11am-1pm at the Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel (11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd. Mount Vernon). A service will follow, beginning at 1pm, with Pastor Marvin Haught officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council, will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
