Elsie Pearl Wiggins, age 94, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025, in Newark at Newark Rehabilitation.
She was born on June 23, 1931, in Knox County and was the daughter of the late Wilmont and Della Mae (Wolfe) Cline.
Raised on a farm on Chestnut Ridge, a few miles east of Millwood, she experienced life in a log cabin without the amenities of electricity, natural gas and running water. After high school she married and moved to the big city of Mt. Vernon.
Employment included waitress, laundromat attendant, floral assistant and bakery worker.
he enjoyed introducing her grandchildren to fishing. And she filled her later years with antiquing and crafting. She had a wide circle of friends in both venues and at her church
and was willing to stop and pray for anyone’s needs at any time.
She will be deeply missed by her family.
Elsie is survived by her sons, Rodney L. Wiggins Sr. and her former daughter-in-law, Janet (Houser) Wiggins, James A. (Sharon) Wiggins and Jay C. Mellberg; grandchildren, Rodney L.
(Christy) Wiggins II, Jeremy R. (Rebecca Galo) Wiggins, Holly E. (Shawn) Moran, Heath E. (Daniel C. Cadle) Wiggins, Jon R. Wiggins, Jennifer L. Wiggins, Brian Knecht, Gavin Mellberg, Krista Mellberg and Austina Mellberg; great-grandchildren, Audrey Wiggins, Kaitlyn J. and Alexander L. Moran, Thaddeus J. and Nola L. Wiggins, Charles A. Bush; step grandchildren, Amy C. (Jeffery) Rizzo and Heather A. (Nicholas) Eminian; step great-
grandchildren, Isabella C. and Mia R. Rizzo, Nathan R. and Benjamin C. Eminian.
She was preceded in death by her former husbands; Jack E. Wiggins and Joseph A. Palmer; brother and sister in law, Paul and Elda Cline; daughter-in-law, Kathleen C. (McGill) Wiggins, and niece, Judy Cline Lonsinger.
The family is observing private funeral services. Burial will be in Riley Chapel Cemetery. The Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel is handling the services for the Wiggins family.
