MOUNT VERNON — The final Sounds in the Park event will take place on Thursday, Aug. 7 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Mount Vernon.
Arch Park Community Garden will host an evening of Music to celebrate the sounds of summer. Erin Salva will open up the evening with some interactive nature songs starting at 6:15 p.m.
The featured artist, Sarah Reed, will share her musical tablets starting at 6:30 p.m.
Locally, Reed is best known for her work with children: song-writing in schools and performing for first graders from the county for more than 20 years.
She works with special needs campers and counselors at Camp Nuhop and spent many years in the duo Prairie Orchid, performing in schools, libraries and family concerts throughout Ohio and nearby states.
Recently, as a board member of SPI (Science Play-space Initiative – a local museum advocating for learning about science through play) she started the Summer Music Garden, an outdoor concert series that includes science activities provided by SPI, and a music component.
Reed performed for several years with Kerry Kean, a fellow songwriter from Kent, as Goslee Reed and Kean.Â
Arch Park Community Garden features a children’s play area, picnic area with ever-bearing strawberries, a dig area,  picnic tables and moveable climbing and sitting stumps.Â
The Back to Nature series at Arch Park is sponsored by Knox Public Health and the Parent Support Initiative.  Snacks and drinks will be available.
