CENTERBURG — A Mount Vernon man was killed on Saturday after a motorcycle crash in Knox County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Henry Young IV, 39, of Mount Vernon, was transported from the scene and pronounced dead at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, authorities reported.

Samantha Hedrick, 36, also of Mount Vernon, was transported to Ohio Health Grant Hospital in Columbus. She sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. Ohio Health Grant Hospital in Columbus was unable to provide any further update on her condition at the time of publication.

Authorities say the incident took place on Saturday, June 14 at 6:25 p.m. on U.S. 36 near milepost 3 in Centerburg.

According to the Patrol, Young was operating a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on U.S. 36 when he drove off the right side of the road, struck a traffic sign and a utility pole. Hedrick was a passenger on the motorcycle.

Authorities say neither person was wearing a helmet.

Young was transported by Central Ohio Joint Fire District, while Hedrick was transported from the scene by Delaware County EMS.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Central Ohio Joint Fire District and Delaware County EMS.

The crash remains under investigation.
