MOUNT VERNON — Around 300 protestors gathered at Mount Vernon’s Public Square on Saturday to participate in the national “No Kings” Day event.

Among the signs on Public Square included one featuring at caricature of President Donald Trump as a clown. Others stated that billionaires should be taxed to balance the national budget.

A few Trump supporters circled Public Square, while the majority of attendees at the rally were anti-Trump demonstrators.

“This is important to me because we have a president who is disregarding the constitution of the United States,” said Steve Vandeholde, of Gambier. “His decisions are arbitrary and we did not elect him to do as he pleases.”

On the other side of the street, Mount Vernon resident Dudley McDougale expressed the opposing viewpoint.

“I believe what I am going to believe they (pointing to the square) are going to believe what they believe and we should do it, like we are today, peacefully, that is what makes this a quality country,” McDougale said. “This country should never be divided because of politics and if nothing else gets in the story, it is, Donald Trump is not king, Jesus Christ is King.”
