DANVILLE — The Danville school board approved the hiring of an in-person speech therapist at Monday’s board of education meeting.
Natalie Maxwell will start at the beginning of the 2025-26 school year, district superintendent Jason Snively said, with a $65,000 salary.
At least for three years, Snively said, the district has relied on an online speech therapist for students. Now it’s in-person.
Special Education Director Ed Rezny said this hire will “be great for our kids.”
Danville HS expansion on track
The high school expansion remains on track, Snively said, adding it should be complete by Dec. 6.
The 4,800 square-foot, two-story addition is adding an ADA-accessible entryway into the high school, an ADA elevator, two meeting rooms, two individual restrooms and administrative space.
Roughly 500 square feet of space will be renovated in the existing building. One of the renovations will be adding new kitchens, cabinets and flooring to the family consumer science lab.
“The two real objectives of the addition are number one to provide a safe and secure entryway throughout the day,” Snively said in a previous Knox Pages article.
Also at the meeting, the board approved a $37,500 design phase contract for a parking lot where the former intermediate building sits. Snively said he hopes to have the lot completed by the fall, though a specific date wasn’t mentioned.
The project will need to go to bid, which Snively said he hopes happens by July.
