MOUNT VERNON – Mount Vernon Director of Law Rob Broeren announced that on May 29, 2018, in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court, Judge John C. Thatcher sentenced James Fowler on two counts of Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and traveling on the far Right Side of the Roadway.

The charges arose out of an incident that occurred on March 27, 2018, when Fowler drove drunk and struck another vehicle on Wooster Road. The defendant previously pleaded guilty on May 1, 2018.

The victim of the accident appeared for the sentencing and Victim Advocate Ellie Cline read her statement to the Court. The court sentenced Fowler to pay a $700 fine, serve 180 days in jail, with 150 days suspended, placed him on two years of community control with the following conditions: complete a drug and alcohol assessment within 60 days of release and wear an alcohol monitoring device, and suspended his operator’s license for two years.

The case was investigated by Sargent Daniel Selby of the office of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
