MOUNT VERNON – The Opportunity Knox recycling center will discontinue its paper-shredding service due to the permanent failure of the industrial shredder.

After evaluating repair options, the estimated cost of over $9,000 made it unfeasible to continue the service.

Although Opportunity Knox is discontinuing the shredding service, community members can still recycle paper by placing it in paper bags and depositing it in any local Rumpke community recycling bin.

However, this is not a secure disposal method, so it is not advisable to deposit documents containing personal or sensitive information.

To help meet the community’s needs, Knox County Recycling & Litter Prevention will sponsor two paper-shredding events later this year.

Additionally, the annual CES Credit Union Shred Day is tentatively scheduled for May 10 at the Knox County Service Center Employee Lot on East Chestnut Street.

This event will provide residents with a secure option for disposing of confidential documents.
