About the event:
Acclaimed scientist Hope Jahren has devoted her life to botany. Her first book is a treatise on plant life—but it is also more than that.
Lab Girl is a book of stories: about the author’s childhood in rural Minnesota with difficult parents; about how science captivated her; and about the exhilarating discoveries and inevitable disappointments inherent to a career in science…and to life in general. Her work takes her from the Midwest to the North Pole and, eventuallly, to a tropical paradise.
Yet the core of this book is the story of the relationship Jahren forged with a brilliant, wounded man who becomes her lab partner and best friend.
Read it and come talk about it.
