MOUNT VERNON — Knox County athletes are shining through the winter sports season on their respective collegiate campuses.

For instance, Centerburg product Carter Jones is enjoying an outstanding senior season with the Mount Vernon Nazarene basketball program.

A 6-foot-5 swingman, Jones has started all 21 games for the Cougars (12-9). He is averaging 8.7 points, five rebounds and two assists a game. He scored six points and grabbed four boards in MNVU’s 76-71 win over Taylor (Ind.) last week.

• East Knox graduate Shane Knepp has appeared in six game for the Muskingum basketball team. The 6-foot junior guard averages four minutes a game for the Muskies (10-8, 8-3 Ohio Athletic Conference). 

• Beau Bridges, a Mount Vernon graduate, is a junior center on the Heidelberg basketball team. The 6-foot-5 Bridges appeared in 10 games as a freshman in 2022-23 but sat out all of the 2023-24 season with an injury. He has yet to appear in a game this season. The Student Princes are 12-6 overall and 8-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. 

• Mount Vernon’s Brock Blankenhorn is a freshman wrestler at Ohio Nothern. The freshman 125-pounder is 14-13 on the season with 11 falls.

• Mount Vernon’s Kylie Parsons is a sophomore forward on the College of Wooster women’s basketball team. The 6-foot-2 Parsons has appeared in 11 games and is averaging 1.5 points and 1.4 rebounds a game. The Fighting Scots are 4-14.

• East Knox’s Wyatt Ary is a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene bowling team. The sophomore finished a team-best 25th at the third of four Crossroads League bowling tournaments earlier this week with a 187.7 average. The fourth and final Crossroads tournament is Saturday in Elkhart, Ind.
