MOUNT VERNON — The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program at Knox Public Health will begin operating at the Upper Gilchrist Health Center early next year.

A previous Knox Pages article reported that discussions about a new location for WIC began in June, following the decision to sell the property at 809 Coshocton Ave, where the program currently operates in two suites.

“This frees up the ability of square footage at the main site, but it creates opportunities for all our behavioral health and substance use order professionals to work under one roof,” health commissioner Zach Green said.

“We felt that it was in the best interest to put all those professionals together so they can continue to collaborate and serve community members in that manner.”

According to KPH’s website, WIC is a free nutrition program that helps income-eligible women and their children with breastfeeding education and support, supplemental nutritious foods; nutrition education and counseling; screening and referrals to other health and social services.
