MOUNT VERNON — It’s time to smash pumpkins like it’s 1979.
Community Roots and Knox County Recycling & Litter Prevention are hosting a smashing pumpkins event to help reduce residential food waste while keeping pumpkins out of landfills.
The waste prevention event will be held Nov. 9 at 1104 W. Gambier St. from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Guests can bring their Halloween pumpkins to smash for compostable materials. Event organizers will bring items for pumpkin smashing.
Everyone who brings a pumpkin is entered into a raffle for local gift cards and coupons.
Event sponsors are the Community Roots, Knox County Recycling & Litter Prevention, Delaware Knox Marion Marrow and Knox County Commissioners.
