FREDERICKTOWN — The Freddies control their own destiny.
Fredericktown (5-4) was 14th in the Region 18 ratings when the Ohio High School Athletic Association unveiled its weekly rankings Tuesday afternoon.
The Freddies will likely reach the postseason for a fifth straight year regardless of what happens in Friday’s Knox Morrow Athletic Conference grudge match against Centerburg, according to ratings maven and College of Wooster professor Drew Pasteur, but a win erases all doubt. The top 16 teams in each region qualify for the playoffs.
The path forward is Region 18 is less defined for East Knox. The Bulldogs (4-5) are 18th in the regional ratings and need a win over rival Danville on Friday and a little help to reach the postseason for a second straight year.
Both Danville (7-2) and Centerburg (6-3) already have locked up playoff bids.
The Blue Devils are second in Region 27 of Division VII and have clinched a top-four finish in the region. Danville is in line to host two playoff games.
Centerburg is 12th in Region 23 of Division VI. The Trojans earned their playoff bid with last week’s win over East Knox.
The door is not completely closed on Mount Vernon, but the Yellow Jackets need more help than likely is available. Mount Vernon (2-7) is 19th in Region 7 of Division II and needs an upset victory over Granville (8-1) on Friday.
The OHSAA will announce its first-round playoff pairings Sunday.
