Mount Vernon — Paddle for Heroes is hosting a fundraiser at Ariel-Foundation Park in Mount Vernon on April 28, 2018. The goal of this fundraiser is to raise approximately $30,000 for an ADA accessible kayak launch for the park. The launch will help those with disabilities, including seniors, children and others that have physical limitations get back in the water easily and safely. The fundraiser will consist of a Team River Runner Kayak Football Tournament and a 1,500 yard kayak/canoe race in the morning, followed by a benefit in the afternoon with live music, craft beer and food trucks.

“We are very excited to be able to pull the community together to help those that would like to be able to kayak or canoe but because of physical limitations they are not able to,” said Steve Fleming, an organizer of Paddle for Heroes.

Paddle for Heroes is a small veteran’s organization that focuses on community involvement to help not only veterans but others in need. Members of Paddle for Heroes will be paddling 160 miles from Mount Vernon to Marietta to assist with the cause as well. They will start their paddle on May 5. Those interested in the fundraiser or the Mount Vernon to Marietta paddle can find more information on the Paddle for Heroes Facebook page.

Tickets can be purchased for the event for $20 and will include giveaways, live entertainment and activities for the community to enjoy. If you are not able to join for the fundraising event you can make donations to Foundation Park Conservancy, Attn: ADA Accessible Kayak Launch, P.O. Box 644, Mount Vernon, OH 43050 or you can call 216-832- 9479 for more information.
