John G. Owens, age 83, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon, Ohio. He was born on June 16, 1941, in Springfield, Ohio, to the late William and Grace (Woodhouse) Ownes.
John was an Ohio State Highway Patrolman for over 20 years. He then worked for First Merit bank as a loan officer, then he also was a superintendent for ODOT in Knox County. John was a member of the Fraternal Order of Elks #140, Mount Zion Lodge #9 F&AM. One of John’s dearest hobbies was golfing, and he was a member of the Mount Vernon Country Club. He would also golf at Hiawatha Golf Course in the mornings.
John is survived by his loving wife, Carol Sue (Baker) Owens, whom he married on November 23, 1963; a brother, William Owens; loving caregiver, Catrina Knight; feline companion, K.C.
Along with his parents, John is preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara and Carolyn.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 4-6 PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home; 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio, 43050.
