Ohio Eastern Star shares Country Club Olympic results

MOUNT VERNON — The Ohio Eastern Star Home and Country Club Rehabilitation Campus competed against each other in three Olympic events from Aug. 5 to 9.

On Aug. 5, the opening ceremonies included a parade of residents from each facility in The Ohio Eastern Star Home’s Community Room.

Once the room was filled, Bill from Country Club carried the torch and lit the Olympic flame. The National Anthem was then sung, followed by a Bean Bag Toss competition.

Three residents from The Ohio Eastern Star Home and three residents from Country Club participated in the event.

On Aug. 7, a Kahoot (trivia) event took place. The competition was between two teams, each consisting of five residents from The Ohio Eastern Star Home and Country Club. They competed for gold and silver medals.

A relay took place on Aug. 9. Two teams of eight intermixed residents from Country Club and Eastern Star competed in a relay using a spatula and ingredients that make a hamburger. The first team to make the hamburger won.

After the relays, a closing ceremony took place with The Ohio Eastern Star Home resident Ruth putting out the flame.

Afterward, individual medals were awarded

“We hope to compete again in two years during the Winter Olympics and hope more nursing homes will join us,” organizers stated.
