DANVILLE — Matt Haller and Jackie Haller relish their lives in Danville.
Mining the philosophy of community is how co-owners of Jackie’s Sandwich Shop, located at 505 S. Market St., choose to operate their restaurant.
It’s where the married couple found peace in moments of chaos.
Jackie’s Sandwich Shop hours
- Thursday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Jackie’s Sandwich Shop is co-owned by the Haller’s, after moving back to Danville three years ago from Grandview Heights, with Matt growing up in Danville.
Jackie said his friends and family know Matt for his cooking, being able to put together sandwiches for any function. Now, he’s living his dream.
“Most people don’t have an opportunity to fulfill their dreams and we were able to,” Jackie said.
The Haller’s started preparing for their storefront in March, Jackie said.
One sandwich on Jackie’s menu is traditional Italian beef, seared and dipped with a homemade broth.
“We truly do put love in our food,” Jackie said. “It’s not coming out of a package. Everything is handmade in there.”
The creation of “hero sandwiches” shows appreciation for family — another focal point of Jackie’s sandwich shop.
Matt Haller lost his cousin Scott Hosler, a Marine, to cancer two years ago.
“My vision is to honor him,” Jackie said.
To honor Hosler, a customer can purchase a sandwich for someone who’s served or is currently serving in the Armed Forces or first responders.
