Douglas Grant Long, age 84, of Utica, Ohio, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 5, 1940, in Lima, Ohio, the son of Arthur and Chloe (Cooper) Long. Doug graduated in 1958 from Centerburg High School and attended one year at Miami University.

He was employed as a machinist with Rolls Royce in Mount Vernon, Ohio, when he retired in 2005 after thirty years. Doug also taught machine trades at the Knox County Career Center and worked a few years at Owens Corning in Newark.

Doug was a life-long member of the Brandon Baptist Church, Licking Lodge #291, where he served as past Master, Ohio Eastern Star, and Miller/Morgan Grange for over 50 years. Doug was also active with the Missionary Maintenance and owned and piloted his own plane.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy Louzella (Butler) Long, his daughter, Melinda (Wayne) Walters of Howard, two grandchildren, Jamie (Richard) Reich Jr. and Joshua (Elba) Daniel, three great-grandchildren, Reese Reich, Caleb Reich, and Alina Daniel.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Jeff Long, a brother, Dennis Long, and two half-brothers, Michael Long and David Long.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024, beginning at 12 p.m. at the Brandon Baptist Church, 13513 Sycamore Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050, where friends may call one hour prior. Pastor Marvin Haught will officiate, and burial will follow in Brandon Cemetery.
