MOUNT VERNON — Rain didn’t stop folks at Ariel-Foundation Park from celebrating a booming Independence Day.

More than 1,300 fireworks lit the park’s sky, enjoyers watching from the hills or with geese scattered throughout the reflective lake.

Before the boom and glitter, Desmond Wall as McLennon, a McCartney and Lennon tribute band, kicked off the live music show at 5 p.m.

Chaz and Nicki hit the stage at 6 p.m., showcasing an upbeat acoustic show mixing feel-good classic covers with harmony-rich originals. The Music of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers took over with Tom the Torpedoes at 7 p.m.
