MOUNT VERNON – The executive director and advocate of the Winter Sanctuary homeless shelter has announced her resignation. Heidi Burns posted a notification of her resignation Thursday afternoon on Facebook. Burns said, “This was not an easy decision, but the right one for me and my family.”
Her last day will be November 6, less than a week after the facility opens for the winter season.
Burns said, “I’ve been blessed to serve our homeless community and be a part of our shelter family for over four years. I’m excited about future possiblities and ways I can continue to provide leadership and advocacy in our community.”
Shelter board members will look for Burns’ replacement.
