MOUNT VERNON — Authorities released the name of the male motorist killed Thursday in a semi-truck and motorcycle collision at the Columbus Road/South Main Street intersection.

Upon the officers’ arrival a single male victim, Robert (Bob) Staats, 73, of Mount
Vernon, was located. Staats was declared deceased at this time from apparent injuries
sustained in the accident, a Mount Vernon Police Department press release states.

Mount Vernon Police Department requested assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol due to the nature of the accident, the release states.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is the lead investigative agency for the incident, an MVPD press release states.

The highway patrol is investigating the incident and further updates will be released through them, the release states.

No charges or citations have been issued, pending the outcome of the investigation.
