MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon BPOE Order of Elks provided a $2,500 grant to HopeNow Furniture Bank to support its “Stock the Shelves” and “Beds for Kids” programs which serve the neediest families in Knox County.

“We are pleased to support these two wonderful programs that provide care for those in need and make life better in our community,” said Sandy Dick, grants coordinator for the Order of Elks.

The Elks have generously supported HopeNow and its mission across the years through their grants program, which funds 501 (c)3 charities. As required by Elks rules, the organization is required to use a portion of their proceeds for charitable purposes. In addition, the Elks provide support to community organizations through foundation funds.

“We are grateful for the generous support of the Order of Elks across the years,” said Mearle Griffith, HopeNow Furniture Bank executive director.  “This grant is particularly helpful as we have increasing needs to serve families, especially children, with beds and bedding, housewares, and gently used furniture.””

The BPOE Order of Elks Lodge 140 has been a major contributor to making a difference in the community for more than 125 years. The Lodge is located at 32 Public Square in Mount Vernon and has nearly 500 members.
