MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon High School swimming relay qualified for the finals at Saturday’s Ned Reeb Memorial Invitational at Ohio State University.
Bre McCluskey and Claire Duffy then joined forces with Maggie Williams and Skylar Hill for the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relays. The group finished 25th in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:46.50. In the 400, the quartet went 3:55.98 during prelims. This time earned them 20th place and a swim in the finals.
At finals, the same group finished in 3:55.58, earning 19th place and four points for the team.
This was the first time since 2014 Mount Vernon has qualified swimmers for finals of this meet.Â
In addition, Williams competed in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. She finished 35th in the 200 with an in-season best time of 2:05.79. In the 500, she placed 25th with another season-best time of 5:41.87.
Duffy also competed in the 500-yard freestyle. She finished 40th with a time of 6:07.26.
McCluskey and Hill swam in the 50-yard freestyle. McCluskey placed 47th with a season-best time of 26.56 while Skylar earned 49th with a time of 26.68. Hill also competed in the 100-yard butterfly and finished 38th in 1:05.63.
The quartet of Anna Rhodeback, Liz Cline, Duffy, and McCluskey swam in the 200-yard medley relay and finished 35th in 2:06.06.
