MOUNT VERNON — Patrol Officers Paige Sims and Patience Weiser marked significant milestones in their law enforcement careers when they were promoted to sergeant in the Mount Vernon Police Department on Feb. 1.
“Today marks a historic moment for the Mount Vernon Police Department as we proudly swear in Sgts. Paige Sims and Patience Weiser,” Police Chief Robert Morgan said. “Their promotions exemplify the unwavering dedication and exceptional skills that define our officers.”
Sims joined the force on June 10, 2018, as a patrol officer. She has primarily served on night shift patrol to ensure community safety during crucial hours. During her tenure, Sims has demonstrated unwavering commitment.
Her versatility shone through as she excelled in various roles, becoming a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) officer, a compassionate Field Training Officer, a skilled Hostage Negotiator, and a proficient L.E.A.D.S. Tac Officer.
“Being promoted to sergeant is a testament to her exemplary service, leadership, and the invaluable contributions she has made to the Mount Vernon Police Department,” Capt. Andrew Burns said.
Weiser’s promotion marked a swift and commendable ascent in her law enforcement career. Joining the department in August 2020 as a patrol officer, Weiser quickly established herself as a dedicated officer. The majority of her service was dedicated to night shift patrol duties.
In a relatively short span, she demonstrated her commitment to the community’s well-being by becoming a CIT officer, showcasing her ability to handle complex situations with empathy.
Additionally, Weiser took on the role of a Field Training Officer, displaying leadership and mentoring skills.
“Her promotion underscores not only her individual accomplishments, but also her potential to contribute significantly to the department’s continued success,” Burns said.
“Both Sgt. Sims and Sgt. Weiser have consistently demonstrated outstanding commitment and versatility throughout their careers. Their promotions not only recognize their individual achievements but also highlight the tremendous value they bring to our organization,” Morgan said.
“As we welcome them into their new roles, I am confident that their continued contributions will elevate our department to new heights and reinforce our commitment to excellence in serving and safeguarding our community.”
