LEXINGTON — Lexington took a big first-quarter lead and pulled away in the second half to dump Mount Vernon 46-29 in Thursday night’s Ohio Cardinal Conference clash.

Lady Lex jumped on top 15-6 in the first period before the Yellow Jackets closed to within 22-14 at halftime.

Lexington pushed in front 35-24 heading to the final eight minutes, and outscored MV 11-5 in the fourth quarter.

Ava Brown’s 12 points and 15 rebounds were game-high totals for both teams. Cora Palmer added 10 points for Lex, while Makaree Chapman had nine.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Kymber Bell’s eight points.

Lexington is now 7-8 overall, 6-3 in the Ohio Cardinal Conference. Lady Lex hosts Mansfield Senior on Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets fell to 4-10, 2-6 and will host Madison on Saturday.
