MOUNT VERNON — MadCap Living History kicks off its second season of bringing living history characters to life with Bill Bridges portraying Mount Vernon’s own Daniel Decatur Emmett.
The performance will be at Mount Vernon’s historic Woodward Opera House on Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.

Daniel Decatur Emmett was born on Oct. 29, 1815, in Mount Vernon. He is well known for his folk song compositions.
Finding his musical influence from his mother and close friends, Dan Emmett learned to sing, play the fiddle, and write music.
Emmett traveled much during his lifetime, but returned to Mount Vernon for his retirement in 1888. He gave his final large public performance at The Woodward Opera House. He died on June 28, 1904, at the age of 88.
