Dolores J. McCutcheon

Dolores “Dee” Jean (Carr) (White) McCutcheon

On March 24, 2023, Dee passed away peacefully at age 87 in New Albany, Ohio at Smith’s Mill Health Campus after working tirelessly to recover from a major head/neck injury one month prior.

Dee was born in Davis, West Virginia, and is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Garland (Mac) McCutcheon, who resides in Howard, Ohio; children: Linda (White) Taylor, Debra [Gary] (White) Nance, Edwin [Kim] White, Betty (White) Meyer, Laura (White) Griffin; step-children: Garland (Gary) [Carol] McCutcheon, Jr., Thomas McCutcheon, Ellen (McCutcheon) Prosek; siblings/inlaws: Betty (Carr) Moore, Evelyn (Evie) (Carr) Armentrout, David [Carol] Carr, Phyllis [Donald] Carr, Janice [Gerald] Carr, Lynda [James] White, Shirley (White) Didawick, Robert White, Ann [Dennis] McCutcheon; 97 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and countless beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Olie and Gladys (Shaffer) Carr; husband: Cecil (Ed) White; siblings/in laws: Charles [Betty] Carr, John [Betty] Moore, Donald (Donnie) [Phyllis] Carr, Gerald [Janice] Carr, Donald (Kay) [Evelyn] Armentrout, Joyce [Ern] (Carr) White, Ellen  [Richard] (White) Moyers, James (Jim) [Lynda] White, Royce White, Thomas White, Dennis [Ann] McCutcheon, Loretta [Larry] McCabe; son-in laws: Cecil [Linda] Taylor, John [Betty] Meyer, Robert (Bob) [Laura] Griffin. Dee loved deeply and became a surrogate sister, mother, and grandmother, too many to list, who were just as important to her.

Dee would say, “Life is too short (to be angry).” This became the motto she lived by and shared with others, after the love of her life, Ed White, passed away when she was 47, a couple of days before their 30th anniversary. She did not harbor ill-feelings toward anyone, and quickly forgave those who hurt her, or her family, a true example of a Christian. Her gift of mercy drove her to sense and respond to the emotional needs of others, which deepened her prayer life. What a model of a prayer warrior she was to everyone! She knelt by her bedside until just a few years ago, then started sitting on the side of her bed, usually for about an hour, praying for all of us, each and every night.

Anyone who knew Dee knew the importance of family and church in her life. She never missed a family reunion, and attended church as often as she was able, if even the online service. Some of the best memories include: receiving (snail mail) all types of cards (NEVER missing birthdays), stirring apple butter through the night, burning our fingers with peanut butter candy, devouring warm homemade rolls (her mother’s recipe), sharing zucchini bread, hearing the shenanigans her and her dear sisters would get into, and listening to stories of her growing up in the hills of West Virginia with her large family.

She will be missed. “We love you more!”
