MOUNT VERNON – Investigators looking into Wednesday morning’s apartment fire on Shirley Avenue are seeking tips from the public. The Division of State Fire Marshal’s Fire & Explosion Investigation Bureau is requesting information regarding the blaze now determined to be arson. The fire was reported at 4:30 a.m. at 213 Shirley Avenue.
The Mount Vernon Fire Department responded to the scene, as well as personnel from the Fredericktown Fire Department. The investigation is being conducted in conjunction with the MVPD.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by the Blue Ribbon Arson Committee for information leading to the identification of the person or persons responsible for the fire.
“We need your help to solve this case. Information from the public can help tremendously,” said State Fire Marshall Larry Flowers. “Even if you don’t think the information is relevant, it could bring the entire case together for our investigators.”
