MONROE TOWNSHIP – A Bellville man died and his vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon on Swigart Road at Hastings East Road, according to the Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Authorities believe Harold R. Feltner, 70, suffered a medical emergency before his vehicle left the road at approximately 4:49 in Monroe Township.
A caller alerted the Patrol to the emergency after stating the driver was unresponsive with the vehicle in gear, the rear tires spinning, and the doors locked.
Troopers located the vehicle in a field at the intersection of Swigart Road and Hastings East Road. The driver, Feltner, was found unconscious in the driver’s seat. Troopers, with the assistance of Monroe Township EMS/Fire, gained access into the vehicle and provided aid.
The preliminary investigation shows Feltner was traveling north on Swigart Road, crossed Hastings East Road and traveled into a field. The vehicle continued north through the field until the tires lost traction in the mud.
Feltner was transported to Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The Monroe Township Fire and EMS, and Madison Township EMS assisted on scene.
