MOUNT VERNON — Ptl. James Coffey has been selected by a majority vote of his peers as the 2021 Officer of the Year at the Mount Vernon Police Department.

Coffey started with the MVPD in June 2018. Prior to joining the force, he was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Coffey graduated from the Basic Police Officer Training Academy at Central Ohio Technical College in May 2017.

Coffey is a field training officer for the MVPD as well as a member of the ESU Team.

Coffey’s wife, Amanda, and son, Treven Scurlock, were present for the award.
